EASY CARNIVORES :: Albany Pitcher

Albany Pitcher

THE LURE: a bit of an ant specialist, this intricate little trap has nectar glands on the outside of the trap, and it guides insects between its ribs covered with hairy bristles, to the nectar, most of which is at the base of the curved teeth around the mouth.
THE TRAP: Whilst trying to get this nectar many insects will lose their footing and drop into the pool of digestive fluid inside the trap. The sides are so slippery, and the teeth on the overhanging collar curve down, making escape very difficult.
THE MEAL: The fluid in the bottom is rich in digestive juices that break down the prey and absorb the goodness
